Helen Suzanne is an artist originally from Yorkshire who has lived and worked in the highlands and islands of Scotland for over 15 years, taking her inspiration from the wilderness environments of shore and moorland.
Primarily Helen works in Oils but over the last 7 years has developed a keen interest in the medium of textile. Small landscape abstractions allow her to capture the colours and textures of the places she studies and, keen to share these original pieces, they are available as original cards. Exotic gift tags also represent the landscape observations, as do the beautifully crafted hand-dyed and felted silk/merino wool scarves.
Photography is also something which Helen creates with, seeking out light and shadow, pulling out forms and texture that capture the essence of a time and place. Mostly in B&W these works are available as prints or cards.
Since moving from the islands to the mainland Helen's interest in ceramics has been revived and she is currently working on a series of new pieces inspired by the native birch woodland in the North East of Scotland. These pieces will be available soon.
Original canvas oil paintings take a considerable time to complete and are often sold quickly, so if you like the style of work you see here, as they become available, and on the samples page you might like to consider comissioning a painting specially for you. Please do email me if you like to discuss this option.
New Studio ceramics will be produced about 4 times a year at present. The next pieces should be available in mid November.
Each season will bring a development of style and no two pieces will be the same. Individual works are created to be unique with hand-made glazes and fired in a brick gas-fired kiln. The results from each stoneware firing session are characterised by the effects of the natural elements on the day, which combined with subtleties in glaze elements to produce an unrepeatable work of art.
A range of textile bookmarks, tags, scarves and covered journals will create an often changing display on this page, as ever popular items are sold. The tags especially make ideal small gifts when just a card isn't quite enough but it isn't appropriate to spend a lot. They are versatile and can be used as parcel tags for a special gift, book marks, or a special reminder of the colours of Scotland when mounted and framed as small works of art.
Each textile tag costs £4.95 plus postage.
These Original art cards are now available for direct purchase. You will get the exact same card you see here. Each one off textile piece, measuring 3½" x 3½" and mounted on a 6" x 6" quality white 280gms card with envelope, is signed by the artist.
Each card costs £4.95 plus postage.
Photographic prints are produced from original photographs by the artist. Each image is available as a high quality digital print on fine matt archival paper, measuring 10" x 10" with a ½" white border to allow for you to add a mount and frame.
Photographic Prints cost £18.50 plus postage.
Prints of Oil Paintings cost £25 plus postage.
A selection of work produced and sold over the last two years.
All these works are painted in Oils and measure between 10" and 18" square.
